The Nuclear Finance Summit is where the people financing the future of nuclear come together. Designed as an executive-level forum, this exclusive pre-conference summit brings together industry leaders, investors, utilities, governments, and innovators for a day of high-impact conversations about the capital, policy, and partnerships needed to accelerate nuclear deployment.

More than a series of presentations, the Summit is designed to spark ideas, challenge conventional thinking, and create meaningful dialogue between those making investment decisions and those delivering projects. Expect thought-provoking keynotes, candid conversations, and practical insights on topics ranging from innovative financing models and private capital to market design, risk allocation, and the policies that will shape the next generation of nuclear development.

If the future of nuclear depends on getting finance right, this is the conversation you won’t want to miss. Join the leaders driving the decisions that will define the industry’s next decade before the main conference begins.

Keynote

Sweden has successfully created the conditions necessary to attract private investment and advance new nuclear development through a combination of policy certainty, revising the regulatory framework, and applying public-private partnerships in a deregulated energy market. Alberta now finds itself at a similar crossroads, with growing interest in nuclear energy and a provincial environment that shares many of the characteristics that enabled Sweden’s progress.

This session will explore how Sweden structured its approach to nuclear finance, the mechanisms it is applying to improve investor confidence, and the lessons that can be applied within the Alberta context. International experts will share firsthand insights into what’s working, the challenges they have encountered so far, and the practical considerations for jurisdictions seeking to mobilize private capital for nuclear projects.

Commercial banks play a critical role in financing major infrastructure projects, yet nuclear has often been viewed as a complex and higher-risk investment. What would it take to change that equation? This panel brings together leaders from financial institutions to explore the conditions that would increase confidence in nuclear projects. Panelists will discuss the specific factors they need to see before committing capital. The conversation will provide attendees with a clearer understanding of how de-risking strategies can help bridge the gap between nuclear ambition and investment reality.

November 3, 2026 11:15 – 12:30

Interest in nuclear for industrial applications has grown significantly, but deploying Alberta’s first industrial SMR will require much more than a proven technology. It will take an industrial customer with a clear need, a technology capable of meeting it, a viable commercial and investment model, and the right conditions to move a project forward.

This panel brings together organizations that each hold a critical piece of that equation. From the perspective of industrial energy users and reactor developers to project development and Alberta’s innovation ecosystem, panelists will examine what needs to happen before a first project can reach a commercial decision.

The conversation will get practical about the barriers that remain, including technology readiness, cost and risk, project development, industrial integration and investment, and ask where responsibility for moving the market forward ultimately sits.

Most importantly: what needs to happen next, and who needs to move first, for Alberta’s first industrial SMR to become a reality?

Canada has one of the world’s richest uranium resources and a globally recognized nuclear supply chain, with Western Canada at the heart of that advantage. But as nuclear deployment accelerates around the world, securing the uranium itself is only part of the equation.

This session explores the nuclear fuel journey from resource to reactor, and what it will take for Canada to strengthen its position across the fuel value chain. The conversation will examine uranium supply and production, conversion and enrichment, fuel design and fabrication, and the increasingly complex requirements of emerging reactor technologies.

Against a backdrop of growing global demand and renewed focus on energy security, the panel will consider where vulnerabilities remain in the Western nuclear fuel supply chain, what new reactor technologies will require, and where Canada has an opportunity to capture greater economic and strategic value.

With Saskatchewan already playing an outsized role in global uranium supply, could Canada’s next nuclear advantage be building on that foundation to become an even more important global hub for secure, reactor-ready nuclear fuel?

What does it take to advance a capital-intensive, long-lived nuclear project in an electricity market where generators must compete for investment and revenue?

Alberta’s deregulated market creates a very different path to nuclear development than the regulated utility models used elsewhere in Canada. A project must establish a viable commercial case, secure customers and financing, manage exposure to market prices, and demonstrate how it will contribute to a reliable and affordable electricity system.

This session will examine what would need to align for nuclear development to move forward in Alberta. Panelists will explore the market signals and revenue certainty investors require, the role of long-term contracts and large energy users, how nuclear could participate in Alberta’s power market, and the infrastructure and system-planning considerations that would accompany a new project.

It’s the year 2050. Canada has successfully deployed ten new large-scale reactors, a fleet of small modular reactors is operating across the country, and nuclear energy has become a cornerstone of Canada’s clean energy, industrial, and economic strategy. Looking back, what made that future possible?

In this series of 7 minute presentations, leaders from Canada’s research, innovation, and commercialization ecosystem will each tell one part of the story. From scientific breakthroughs and advanced materials to talent development, technology demonstration, commercialization, and regional innovation, each speaker will explore the critical role their organization played in enabling Canada’s nuclear success.

Together, these perspectives will reveal that building reactors was only part of the challenge. Building the research infrastructure, skilled workforce, partnerships, and innovation ecosystem behind them was just as important. This session offers a forward-looking vision of the investments and collaboration needed today to ensure Canada reaches its nuclear ambitions tomorrow.

As nuclear development accelerates across Canada and around the world, the strength of the domestic supply chain will play a defining role in determining who captures the economic opportunity. Western Canada is uniquely positioned to become a hub for manufacturing, engineering, construction, and specialized services that support both domestic projects and international markets.

This panel will explore what it will take to build a resilient, competitive nuclear supply chain capable of supporting the next generation of reactors while driving economic growth across the West. The discussion will examine opportunities to expand industrial capacity, strengthen Canadian competitiveness, unlock export potential, and ensure businesses of all sizes are positioned to participate in a rapidly growing global market. Panelists will also discuss the role of financing, strategic partnerships, and long-term investment in creating a supply chain that delivers lasting economic benefits for Western Canada and beyond.

The Federal Nuclear Energy Strategy identifies four pillars for advancing Canada’s nuclear future, beginning with enabling new builds across the country. Turning that ambition into projects will require governments and industry to address the policy, regulatory, financial, workforce and supply-chain conditions that can support successful deployment.

This interactive, CNA member-only session will explore what is needed to enable new and ongoing nuclear projects across Canada. Taking a long-term view, members will be invited to identify emerging opportunities, examine the most significant barriers to development, and discuss the policies, programs and industry coordination required to support sector growth.

The discussion will also provide members with an opportunity to shape how CNA can best support the sector as the federal strategy moves into implementation. Insights from the session will help inform future CNA programming, policy priorities and member services.

Hall D - Main Stage
Panel
Canada’s Nuclear Energy Strategy sets a clear direction: enable new nuclear builds, strengthen Canada’s position as a global nuclear supplier, expand uranium and fuel opportunities, and invest in the technologies that will drive the sector forward.

As CNA West closes, leaders from across the nuclear sector will explore what delivering on that strategy looks like in Western Canada. From Saskatchewan’s plans for new nuclear and the technologies needed to enable deployment, to Canada’s uranium and fuel advantage and the opportunities for Western suppliers, this conversation will look at how the West can help turn a national strategy into projects, investment and economic opportunity.
